The music on the hill.

I'm still thinking about adding text to make it look like a mock festival poster, but here is it so far. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The music on the hill.

So, here's what I intend to do with the face of Pan. I still need to include insects and colour everything. This is just a rough plan, just to see if it actually works. I also had the idea to turn it into a sort of mock 'festival poster' by putting text along the top and the bottom but I'll play around with that after I've finished the line work and added the colour in. So far so good, eh? Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thanks for looking! Click the image for a closer look.

The first face of Pan.

So, I've decided to do something compleatly foreign to me. I've decided to draw most elements from a piece of artwork separately. Its based on a story called "The music on the hill" by Saki, which features the god Pan, the god of the wilderness, flocks, shepherds and animals etc etc. It's an odd tale in which Pan takes the form of a young boy hidden in bushes and plants to torment a woman.
SO, the central part with be his face and then I will build up brambles and thorns and vines and insects around it. Hopefully it'll turn out super. Here's his face so far-

Hornet

Something I did as part of a tutorial which is just teaching me how to use certain elements of photoshop to make the way I work a lot easier. A lot of masking, texturing... yadda yadda yadda. I figured I'd upload it anyway. It's not neat or anything I'm particularly proud of but I might come back to it at some point and touch it up. Who knows.

The Story Teller

More or less complete now. I'll probably end up changing a few things but I thought I'd upload it anyway. It's based on a Saki story called The Story Teller, in which a grumpy man tells some annoying children a story during a one train ride. In this story a young girl, who's very good, gets let into a secret garden as a reward for being such a good child. Unfortunately, the garden is full of pigs which is the best place for a wolf looking for his supper. Instead of chasing a little pig he chases the young girl into a myrtle bush. She would have gotten away if it wasn't for her medals, awarded to her for being such a good child, hadn't clashed together and revealed her location to the wolf. Anyway, Click for a larger image!

Conradin

I've changed the colour palette for Conradin and Sredni Vashtar. However much I liked the gradient on the screen, when this piece printed out it just looked like the printer was running out of ink (something I probably should have thought about). Its a common mistake that artists make, especially those who have only recently dabbled in digital. So I suppose I can't get myself too blue about it. Anyway, the revamped and almost finished piece again!

Something wicked this way comes.

So, I have finished playing with my blog layout for now. I'll probably return to tweaking it at some point, it still doesn't have the 'look' I want it to. Not that I really know what that 'look' is.
Recently my work has taken a turn, I've started to obsessively draw really enjoy working with flowers, insects and animals. They're not necessarily realisitic illustrations but I do use a lot of anatomy books for reference. I tend to half draw from diagrams and photographs and then half 'make-up' plants and insects. I've also been increasing my knowledge of photoshop and experimenting with that. I'm quite a novice and rather embarrassed about not being very good yet, so I won't divulge too much of that. You'll have to wait until I'm a pro to find out about my photoshop experiments. Anyway, here's one of my latest concoctions for you to take a gander at.

Change is coming.

I hope to re-vamp my blog layout and graphics soon, so here's a sneak peak at my header so far. :)

I've also scanned in some pages from my sketchbook so you can all take a gander at what I've been up to recently. Only a few as I don't want to give away all of my secrets now do I?

"What is it that your heart desires, Conradin?"

The first image in a series based on the short and satirical stories of Saki. This is based upon the story 'Sredni Vashtar', the story of an unusual little boy, Conradin, who creates a religion in his garden shed to spite his aunt. His religion revolves around a ferret which he bought with a small treasure of silver, named Sredni Vashtar. I'm not too sure if this piece is finished yet, I've been looking at it for so long I'm not too sure how to feel about it.
Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
